Good Morning gals~
There is lots I want to update you on! I hope everyone is doing well. The first is to say that I have a 3rd grade instructional assistant job that I accepted on Friday! The principal has to do a background check and so I won't be starting for another week. The school I will be working at is Akron Elementary- its about a 45 minute drive, only stinky pary. Its about a 15-20 minute drive from Manchester College. The only reason I ever knew about this school was back during my sophomore year when I had to tutor students through their "flyer time" program for my educational pyschology class. I happened to have filled out a K. instructional assistant (at Pierceton Elem) application shortly after my interview with this one just in case I didn't get the job and I would have hopefully another interivew to pull me through. Well it was last Tuesday and I still hadn't heard anything from Akron and Pierceton called wanting to do an interview with me so I said yes! Then I check my email Wednesday and discover that the principal at Akron was indeed offering me the job. There are times where I'd rather work with K than 3rd grade but after a lot of talking it through and deciding, since I don't know the outcome of the K. interview I thought it would be wise to take the job that I already was being offered. Besides working in the third grade will give me a different and higher grade level to work with as compared to K or first grade. I'm sure this will be a great working experience for me. The nice thing is that I am pretty much working all day. I work 8:30-3:00 I believe. I'm so happy that I don't have to check teaching websites any more..yes I've been still doing that. I feel like this is an answered prayer for me :) I really wanted to do something in the education field to help my getting a job for hopefully next school year.
Last Thursday, I had my first subbing job! I was nervous about it and hoping that I would do okay. It was hard to push myself last year when I was signed up for part time subbing and as a result I never took any jobs :( So therefore I told myself that I need to do this if I am called. It really will help me in lots of ways. So I get a call for a second grade class at a school here in Huntington. Normally most subbing jobs you are notified at the most a day in advance but usually that night or even the next morning somtimes. I was called 6 days in advance. My day ended up being very well and it was a good experience for me. THe other second grade teacher was extremely helpful and made sure I understood everything I was doing. She did ask me how many other times I've subbed and of course I'm like..well this is my first! THe students I had were good. There was only 17 of them..one of the their lower classes in a couple of years now. There were some boys who liked to act up a little bit, but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. I had to take the students down to the lab for NWEA testing, so that pretty much took up my whole morning. So I made it through my first subbing job and I came home exhausted. I also had chosen to sub at this school because its where I recently had an interview for an aide position and I thought I may run into the principal, but I never did.
So some other exciting news is that Jordan and I made an offer on a house! Now we are just waiting to hear back from our realtor that we've been working through. I will give you the website and the person's name to click on, if you would like to see pictues of the house: www.c21huntington.com and the realtor who is selling it is Brenda Wintrode and the address is 548 Iva Street. It should be on there. The funny thing about the house is that if you walk out our backdoor and walk 10 seconds..your there! The back of the house is in our alley and the garage is literally right across from our driveway. So if we get the house, we'd be moving 10 seconds away. It really is a nice looking house inside and plus it actually HAS a yard..and a nice big one I might add. The things that I like about this house is that there is a dishwasher (no more standing over the sink after every meal and handwashing- that got tiring after the 4th time), ceiling fans, everything is new (the man who bought it worked all winter at fixing it up and no one has lived there), a cute little porch in the back, a nice big yard and we will be away from the neighbors across the street from us currently. I want to be able to sit outside and enjoy myself. There is a 1 car detached garage that I will mainly be using and we are going to see if the guy can make install an electric line so that way I don't have to push open the garage with my hands. So I will keep you updated on everything and we will just be pushing the deadline of getting the 8,000 tax credit! Everything should come through in a timely manner.
I know I've been writing a lot, but I had a lot to update on. The last thing is letting you know about my uncle randy( my dad's brother). My aunt Theresa was in town last weekend and we went over to my uncle and aunt's house for a labor day cookout. A couple of weeks ago, my uncle started discovering that he wasn't getting blood flow to his toes (on his right foot) and at first it was just a pain he was feeling and then they started turning blue and purple. When we saw him last Sunday they were cold and were a really dark purple and it looked like the blockage was spreading up his foot. They were also numb. He was getting really worried about them and I was too. It wasn't looking good at all. He had gone to the doctor a couple of days ago when the coloring wasn't as bad, but it was still there and the doctor told him to come TODAY (the 14th) to have another appt. My aunt Theresa and one of my cousins ended up taking my uncle into the emergency room and he had emergency surgery at 6:30 last Monday. If he would have even waited until last Monday, yet alone today, to go to the doctors he most likely would have lost is whole foot at the rate he was going. The next day if he wouldn't have done anything, everything would be turning black. So they ended up opening the blockage and they put stint in his leg. My grandma V (dad's mom) has had a stint put in her and has always had bad blockage, so its a hereditary thing. So my uncle is now back at home- came home on Saturday- however he isn't out of the woods yet. There is still a chance that one or two of his toes could be amputated. They won't know yet for a couple of weeks. They took an ultrasound before he left and he will do another one in a month and they will compare them and know the results. So my uncle is pretty worried about losing a toe or two, but I guess its better than losing your whole foot. I'm trying to reassure him to just take extra care of himself that way he can help his toes and the parts that are still a little colored to get that blood flowing in there and heal. Its amazing how I see so much of my dad in him that I never even saw before...and it was there the whole time.
OKay, I think I have definitely written a ton. That is everything though that is going on right now. I hope everyone has a great week and I'm always thinking about you all and praying for you...that includes baby boy nistler!
Love,
Elyssa
