Exciting news...

No I am not in love, engaged, or pregnant (thank god). This post has absolutely nothing to do with men. Actually it has more to do with feminism. (go figure.)

I received a sizable scholarship to work in the legal non-profit sector and so...I am moving to New York City the first week in June. I am going to live in Manhattan (Midtown East near Gramercy Park) with 1.6 million other people.

A grand juxtaposition: I will work for victims of violence and social injustice just a block from the NY Stock Exchange.

I am pushed out of my comfort zone into the brink of a big adventure and it feels exhilarating and simultaneously terrifying.

The west of my future has met me at my front door, politely knocked twice, and then started loudly beating. Gladly, I woke up and answered----NYC or bust.

Big (Apple) Obstacles

In the spirit of adventurous news...I have been selected for an internship in New York City this summer.

Big Apple:
The internship is with the largest comprehensive domestic violence clinic in the country. It has multiple locations within NYC. I would have the opportunity to help provide legal services to victims of domestic violence, primarily Spanish speaking women. I had the opportunity to speak with the director yesterday. She is a brilliant woman and a well known feminist legal scholar. She is part of the anti-pornography feminist movement that sued Hustler Magazine under constitutional obscenity issues.

Big Obstacles:
The internship is unpaid because the non-profit org. cannot afford to pay interns. I am waiting to hear if I have been awarded a scholarship to work in the public interest legal sector. If I don't receive the scholarship, dreams will be crushed and the introspection and self-restorative process will begin.

Living solo in New York is an exhilarating, lump in the throat, terrifying, empowering thought.

Maybe working on Wall Street? (For real. It's located on Wall Street.)
Breathing deep. Much love.

Open Relationships.

So. Some days you are the shit and some days you are the pooper. (sorry that was graphic.)

I kissed a really cute guy. We made out all night. He was breath stopping gorgeous. I invited him to study with me Monday. He politely declined. He knocked on my door tonight to tell me he is in an open relationship with another girl and he doesn't feel comfortable ending that to pursue what may or may not happen with me. It would be "unhealthy". I told him it would be imprudent to pursue me. And I wasn't lying.

I plan on seductively torturing him into a puddle of romantic mush and then cutting him out. Sort of like when spiders eat their mates after sex. (He hurt my feelings. Rationally, I know revenge never makes things better. So I probably won't go through with my evil plan. But it is a good plan, no?)

I don't understand the concept of open relationships. Isn't it a huge dichotomy?  To me "open relationship" means an easy way to have a lot of sex without technically feeling guilty about hooking up with other people.  The word "relationship" denotes association and connectivity. Although according to Webster, the word relationship does not mean exclusivity.

What do you think?

LIttle Girl Blue.

40% of law students are depressed by their third year of study.
Consequentially, I have re-affirmed my love Janis Joplin and Joni Mitchell.

"You are in my blood like holy wine. You are bitter darling, but you're so so sweet. Ohhh I could drink a case of you."-Joni Mitchell, A Case of You

I've decided my love of language, song, and the written word has led me to my study of the law. Although, undisputedly boring and stiff---the law is the most powerful written word in a civil society. Binding, Unyielding, Flawed, Irreverent, and Raw.

love you poopy faces.

Red Cheeks.

I got called on in a class of 100 people. I didn't realize this case was included in the reading. So mortified.

Whoever decided the Socratic method would be fun for law students should have their face lit on fire and beat with a rake.

Booo.

I kissed someone else and it felt so wrong. How do you know you've made the right decision?
