Motherhood = No Sleep!

Hi Ladies!
Matthew is now officially 2 weeks old (+1 day). I pretty much spend most of my day cuddling with him/feeding him/changing his diapers (he gets the poopsies a lot!). He just had his 2 week check-up and has officially gained 1 pound since birth...which is really good. Makes sense since all he is interested in doing during his waking hours is eat.

And it is true...new mothers do not sleep much. Matthew kind of freaks out at night time. It's almost as if he is having bad dreams. I'll get him to fall asleep and then he'll start whimpering and crying even though he's perfectly dry/warm/fed/burped/etc. I usually am able to sleep from about 10pm until 1am and then after that I spend the remainder of the night rocking him back to sleep. I really don't mind at all...he is so fun to cuddle! The other thing is that he has a really sweet smell. I know that sounds really weird, but he really does smell good. And no it's not a combination of baby shampoo and talcum powder. :)

The best thing happened yesterday which I must share!! Matthew had just woken up from his afternoon nap and was just chilling and looking around at the world he does not see much of since he spends the majority of the time with his eyes shut. I started talking to him and he began to just stare at me as if he was actually listening. Then he smiled! And cooed (sp?)!! It was so sweet! One smile makes all the sleepless nights worth it!

I promise to upload some more pictures soon. Lord knows I have plenty of them. Seriously, I don't think I've taken so many pictures in my life. But you can never have too many pictures of a sleeping baby...can you?

Oh, and I must post his birth story too...if you girls are at all interested. It was interesting to say the least!

I love you!

Love,

Monica (+sleeping Matthew)

  1. This post makes me smile. :)

    Although I'm sad you're not getting a whole lot of sleep. I hope Paul is at least doing some of the rocking (although I know he has to work). And I'm sure your mom has been helpful during her visits.

    I'd love to hear more of the birth story. :) If some of the others are squeamish, you can just write a disclaimer.

    Love you!
