Perhaps things are finally coming together...

Hello my dearest friends,

Some big news in my world - I believe I have a job. 90% sure of it, and I'll go the extra 10% when I start turning in my employment documents. It's a student worker position with the Minnesota Department of Health in the Refugee Health Unit. I'm pretty stoked about it. I did an informational interview with the coordinator in early July, because at that point they weren't sure if they were going to have the position. (My classmate Tyler currently works there, and he referred me.) I never heard anything after that, so I figured they must of decided they weren't going to have it. Until yesterday, when the coordinator sent me an email saying she had just turned in the paperwork for the posting and was wondering if I was still interested. If so, I'm the person she wants. It's about 20 hours a week and pays well. I'll have to take the bus to downtown St. Paul each time, which is the only drawback. It's worth it though. Besides, it gives me an excuse to buy a Kindle so I can read all my pdf articles for classes on the bus.

I'm starting to figure out my master's project as well. Scary stuff. If I want to defend before graduation, I need to figure out exactly what I'm doing by the end of this month or early October. Combine this with my 11 credit hours, my 30 hours of work per week (if I keep the leasing agent job), and the wedding planning, and I'm beginning to feel overwhelmed, even if most of that hasn't started yet!

Anyway, Sean and I went on a spur-of-the-moment date about a week ago. We rented the HourCar after I had gotten off work at 5pm and drove to Lake Minnetonka (gigantic lake in the southwest part of the county where all the rich people live) and had a picnic at a public park in one of the towns. It was a lovely few hours, and reminded me that it's good to get out of the city every once in awhile.

I hope you're all basking in the glory of the late summer sunsets. It's very slowly starting to smell and feel like fall around here.

Love and miss you always,

Lishka
