Big (Apple) Obstacles

In the spirit of adventurous news...I have been selected for an internship in New York City this summer.

Big Apple:
The internship is with the largest comprehensive domestic violence clinic in the country. It has multiple locations within NYC. I would have the opportunity to help provide legal services to victims of domestic violence, primarily Spanish speaking women. I had the opportunity to speak with the director yesterday. She is a brilliant woman and a well known feminist legal scholar. She is part of the anti-pornography feminist movement that sued Hustler Magazine under constitutional obscenity issues.

Big Obstacles:
The internship is unpaid because the non-profit org. cannot afford to pay interns. I am waiting to hear if I have been awarded a scholarship to work in the public interest legal sector. If I don't receive the scholarship, dreams will be crushed and the introspection and self-restorative process will begin.

Living solo in New York is an exhilarating, lump in the throat, terrifying, empowering thought.

Maybe working on Wall Street? (For real. It's located on Wall Street.)
Breathing deep. Much love.

  2. Agreed. And congrats on getting that internship. I really hope that you get the scholarship. Otherwise is there any possible way you could manage to live out there without it?

  3. I am lighting a candle to the scholarship deities right now. I hope they will give you a scholarship or send a rich benefactor your way.

That internship sounds like the sweetest gig ever. You'll take NYC by storm, no doubt. Perhaps if the money gods are kind to me as well, a visit might be in order.

    Fingers crossed for you!
