Nerves

Hey there lovers,

I'm writing to you from the lovely and sunny (and snow free) Pacific Northwest, and since you all know me you probably know how sad I am to be missing all the blizzardy goodness that is the Midwest right now. Sigh. I want snow.

Anyway, as luck would have it, I might be moving back to the midwest sooner than you'd think. Things are complicated right now, but here's the gist of it--

Kyle had an interview with a library here in a town called Tigard (it's just outside of Portland). They really liked him but their city pulled funding on the position they interviewed him for and said they wouldn't know if they would get the funding until the end of March or some time in April. After we heard that we decided to write the position off. Kyle then saw that the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library was hiring for 2 different full-time positions. The one position is a Reader's Advisor position which is something that Kyle would be really interested in doing. The other is a Children's Assistant position which of course I'm very interested in. We decided that even though we'd rather not leave Portland this might be one of our only chances to find 2 full-time positions open at the same time that we both have a good chance of getting. So we applied for them.

Practically the next day after we had mailed our applications to the EVPL, Kyle heard back from Tigard. They said that another of their Reference Assistants had gotten a full-time job and the city had given them the OK to fill that position now rather than waiting to see about the funding. Then a couple of days later Kyle gets a call from the EVPL asking him for a phone interview. He would much rather stay, but he knows how depressed I am not having a real job and the prospects of my getting a job out here soon are not so good. So we're kind of in flux at the moment as to what we will do.

I got a call from the EVPL just yesterday and I have an interview on Skype tomorrow at 12 (noon) Central Time/10 AM Pacific Time. I'm nervous, but mostly because I don't know what we'll do if they offer me the job. And I'll feel really guilty giving my 2 weeks notice to Jacob and his Dad (though I know Mark will understand with the job market the way it is).

Kyle oscillates between being upset that we'll have to move home to Evansville and leave Portland and happy that we'll have full-time jobs with real salaries and health care. He's also a little nervous that he won't get the Reader's Advisor position especially since they only asked him to do a phone interview when they asked me to do a Skype interview right away. Truthfully though I think they want to fill this Children's Assistant position as soon as possible and the Reader's Advisor position doesn't need to be filled until the end of March so I think they're just taking their time.

Anyway, I hope all is well with all of you. Call me sometime, I can always talk to any of you.

  1. Oh I'm so glad you both got interviews!!! How exciting! I hope things work out. I know it's a bit nerve-wrecking, but if you are offered the children's position, don't turn it down again!!! I'll be really mad at you if you do. :)

Love you lots! Will call you soon.

  2. Wow, craziness! When it rains it pours right? Good luck to you both and I pray it all works out.

I must say, I am really enjoying this blizzard. It's an adventure! Of course, I wasn't stranded overnight on Lake Shore Drive....

  3. Hey Court, The timing always seems cruel when you are going through interviews. Good luck with the whole process. Whether you move back to IN or stay in Portland, I am really proud of you for going out there and taking a chance. Let us know how it goes.
