Becoming a World Traveler

Kyle and I are going on vacation.  A paid vacation (it's nice).  We decided right after we got our jobs here that we would do something with our vacation time, something big.  So that is what we are doing.

In one week we will be leaving for Europe.  We are flying to London first for a week and then on to Paris for another week. We are so excited. We've been making plans of what to see and where to go and trying to make sure that we'll be able to find vegan food abroad.

We're planning on bike tours of both cities, and day trips out from both cities.  At this point we're thinking about a day trip to Cardiff while we're in Britain because there is some really nice biking around there and we don't want to completely burn ourselves out on museums in the first week.  Though I'm not sure if we shouldn't be going to Bath because those Roman baths are pretty impressive.

Any advice on what to see, do, or not do while we are in France and Great Britain would be much obliged.  I'm a little overwhelmed actually.  I've never had to plan a trip like this.  Every other time I've gone abroad it's been with a large group so all the details were planned for me (you know, like where to stay and flights and getting Tube passes).

Anyway, if you need/want anything from across the pond let me know.  Or if you want a postcard (or 2 or 3) let me know that too.

We just got a new camera so there will be lots and lots of pictures and they should be pretty awesome (if I can learn to use the new camera that is).

love love love,

Court

  1. Advice on what to to in England and Paris...that I can definitely provide :) Though I know you have been to both places and may already considered these ideas here are my suggestions.
First, I do recommend you go to Bath. The Roman baths are really cool to see and I really enjoyed that town!
    In London:
My absolute favorite tourist activity there was the nighttime Jack the Ripper walking tour. SO interesting!!! On the tour they will take you by the Ten Bells Pub, where Jack was seen with some of his victims, which is still in operation today. So you can also have a drink there.
My favorite museum is Sir Soane's. It's located in the home of this man who was an avid art collector and upon his death asked his collection to be turned into a museum. It's free admission even though it is privately run. It's a little quirky and really fun to visit.
My favorite of the public, government run museums are Tate Modern and the Victoria and Albert.
There's so much to do in Hyde Park it is definitely worth some exploring.
Westminster Abbey and Tower of London are my favorites of the famous London landmarks.
My favorite shopping is Covent Garden and the street market in Notting Hill...though I cannot remember what it's called....
In Paris: We only spent two days there so not as much I can tell you there. My favorite sights were Notre Dame and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. My favorite part of the city was the Latin Quarter. The thing I really wanted to do but did not have the time for was visit Versailles.

    Enjoy your trip my dear!!
