Prayers Needed

Life just isn't fair sometimes.

I can't remember if I told you or not, but my cousin Jennifer was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer last spring. Can't remember what stage it was, but it had metastasized.  She started treatment in the spring, had a double mastectomy in late October, and things were looking pretty good.

I saw her on Thanksgiving, and she looked good.  She had energy, and was excited about her peach fuzz growing back and saying how perhaps she might not need a hat on Christmas.

I got a text from my dad today directed at my siblings and I saying Jenny had gone into the ER on Sunday with a headache, they found "spots" on her brain, and that my mom would call us later to update.

My reaction: "Shit."  Indeed.  My mom called me a little while ago. Jenny had an MRI this afternoon, and they found 20 lesions on her brain.  She has an appointment tomorrow, where more will be known.  But as my mom said, and I figured, this really really really does not look good.  My mom isn't giving my siblings details about how serious/bad it is so that they can finish out their semester without having to think about it.

So please keep Jenny and her family in your prayers. She's only in her early 40s, and has a husband (with a history of mental health issues), and two daughters in 5th and 3rd grade. One of which has cystic fibrosis. Some families just can't catch a break. Life just really isn't fair sometimes.

Love, Lishka

  1. Alicia,
We will be thinking and praying for your cousin daily. You're right...life really, really isn't fair and it is incomprehensible why some people are meant to suffer so much. We went through a similar situation last year with Paul's cousin and I am still trying to understand why something so terrible had to happen to someone so good. Scares the heck out of me. We just have to take comfort that He has a plan and will take care of us no matter what. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Please keep us posted.

  2. Licia,
Praying for Jenny and her daughters. As my dad says, fair is just another four letter word. I love you. Sending every good thought to you and your family.
